How to Survive PA School as a Dad Advice from a PA School Parent

The Life of a PA School Father My name isWilliam Seibt, and I was a PA student and a dad. We moved out to Miami from Phoenix to attend PA schoolwhen my son was nine months old. "One of my son's first semi full sentences was, You have to study? I imagine it will be the same when I have to finish up notes at home from work You have to work? - William Seibt PA-S We arrived in Miami in a Penske truck the evening before classes started and stayed with my sister-in-law for the first week. The first weekend of school, we moved into our new place where we still live today. I have to give my wife credit for setting up the house and taking care of our son while we started our new journey. The first year of PA school was the toughest; I wasn't able tospend a lot of time with my family, and my wife bore the burden of taking care of our son on her own. I was either at school or studying at the library. I knew that finding the balance between life and school wasnecessary, but this was a difficulttransition.I didnt always feelthat I could afford the time away from the books and still pass; the workload was just too great at some intervals. Looking back on it, I feelthat I just popped in on the family every once in a while, either for dinner or just before going to bed. I made every attempt to spend time with myfamily for the last hour of theevening, but that didnt always work out. I made it a point to be available onthe weekends, and my wife was fantastic at planningevents and finding activities to do. I often loaded slide show presentations and books onto my phone and would sit on the bench at the park or in the mall. I would review lectures or topics while my wife and son played. There were some events, such as my sons first birthday or Halloween night, where I made it a point to put the books away for the evening (not the whole day though).I got to enjoy seeing my son dressed up as a dragon and learn how to try to say trick-or-treat. But even then, my wife made all the arrangements and preparations without me. The second year was clinical rotations, and the workload finally lightened up; this is in contrast to the first year. I was able to spend more time with the family, but I found I was lost about what to do around the house to help. Ever since we moved into our place, I had my nose buried in the computer studying. My wife laughs because, for the longest time, I didnt even know where we kept the toilet paper. My school was a 2 year program, so studying for the PANCE didnt officially start for me in the second year. The second year, we enjoyed going to the beach on weekends and doing events around the city. It was the best year of PA school. Then the third year started it was all classroom time again. It was also time to start focusing on the PANCE. Once again, my nose was buried in the computer, and there was time away from the family. The same routine started again. The final semester was much shorter than the other semesters for my program, so it wasnt as bad to go through. My son was a little older and had learned how to speak a few words and sentences by this time. He was also more insistent onspending more time with me. That was the toughest part, having to tell my son no, I cant spend time with you. I have to study while trying to get out the door. A 2-year-old doesnt understand this, and they will repeatedly ask to play, and I found it a little heart breaking. One of my son's first semi full sentences was, You have to study? I imagine it will be the same when I have to finish up notes at home from work You have to work? A recurring theme in PA school is that of my wife taking on the responsibilities of most everything while I went to school. This includes raising our son pretty much on her own. We were fortunate that our son wasyoung when I started PA school. He is two years older now, and Iam looking for my firstjob, he needs my attention, and Im happy not to have to say no all the time. My advice to anyone with kids or planning on having kids while in school Before you start school, discuss the lifestyle with your partner. I dont know anyone who would say that PA school was easy. You will both be going through this trial together, and with a family, it is a team effort. If you can try to live near extended family. We lived near my wifes sister, and I think this helped. Once youre in school, do not study at home. You will need time to focus on you studying without distractions. If you stay at home, your family will need your attention, or you will want to give it to them. Either way, remove that distraction. Be sure to give your family some of your time. Either for dinner, at the end of the day, or on the weekend. This requires some flexibility andwill dependon yourtesting schedule. Mostof your hard-core studying will be dependent on what tests you have that week. For the bigger occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, school events), take a chunk of the day off if you can afford to. During the semester breaks, make that time count. I knew some fellow students that took mini vacations or "staycations." We couldnt afford that on our budget, but if you can afford it, do it. Finally, show your better half your appreciation for supporting you Buy flowers or cards every once in a while. I went through one semester where I left my wife little notes for her to find in the mornings when she woke up. At the end of each semester or rotation, I would buy her flowers. I tried to let her know that I still noticed her and thought of her and my son. Gavrilo Princip, Sarajevo and World War I Essays - 3396 Words

Gavrilo Princip, Sarajevo and World War I In present-day Sarajevo alongside the Miljacka River there used to be commemorative footprints in the concrete sidewalk. Spanning across the Miljacka River was the Princip Bridge, named after the man who took not only the life of an Archduke, but also the lives of many more during World War I. Bismarck had predicted that, â€Å"Some damned foolish thing in the Balkans† would cause the war. He was partially correct. The assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip did not cause World War I; instead it served as one of the contributing factors to the start of the war. This is why in Sarajevo, after 1990, there are no traces of the assassination. The reason for doing this is not really known, but it is thought by some that the Austrians were just exercising t heir right as a sovereign power. Turkey was paid a settlement in cash from the Austrians and much of Europe calmed down, except for the Serbians who wanted the territory as their own. On October 8, 1908, two days after the annexation, the founding of a semi-secret society called Narodna Odbrana occurred. They met in the City Hall in the city of Belgrade. Many of these men were Serbian ministers, government officials, and generals. The group was founded to give a purpose to Pan-Slavism and to recruit and train for a potential war with Austria. Anti-Austrian propaganda was spread and spies of the Narodna Odbrana were now operating in the Austrian provinces. One year later, in 1909, Austria asked the Serbian government to put a stop to their revolution against Austria. The Narodna Odbrana was forced to listen and instead they concentrated on â€Å"education and propaganda† in Serbia. Many members of the Narodna Odbrana were not happy with this and decided to form a new, completely secret, organization. Service Marketing Services

Question: Write an essay on Service Marketing? Answer: The main characteristics of services that are provided by the different organisations are that they are intangible and are perishable. Services are thus those that cannot be touched only the benefits are felt and sensed. There are various ways by which the services can be provided to the people (Baron, 2010). The services are measured by the extended Ps of marketing. They are physical evidence, people, and process. These three are the main pillars on which the services are based. The physical evidence is the area or the atmosphere where the service is provided by the employees of the company or the organisation to the people. The people are the employees who provide the services to the customers and the processes are the way the services are provided to the people (Ruskin-Brown, 2005). It needs to be seen that the services are encountered by the people and the people develops an image about the quality of the services that they receive. The services are perishable which indicates that the services that are offered to the people should be availed immediately in order to derive the benefit out of it. It cannot be stored in the shelf like a product. Moreover it is seen that the service cannot be separated from the service provider (Ng Forbes, 2009). The same level of service cannot be provided by same service provider to the same customer all the time. More over it is seen that the service differs from one service providers to another, and one customer cannot expect the same level of satisfaction each time he or she avails the service (Longà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ Tolbert Gammoh, 2012). The services are different from the product in all the aspect, but both needs extensive promotion in order to make them sell in the market. There are different sectors where the services are provided. They range from the hotel, restaurants, hospitals, airlines to schools and colleges. Each of these sectors have different means by which they provide services to the people. Often it is seen that the product offers after sale services, warranties to the people, which are a form of service that they provide in order to make the product more competitive in the market (Kwortnik Thompson, 2008). The level of hard work and the performance of the service provider, the innovative ways of delivering the services, the atmosphere, ambience of the building adds to the quality of the service that are provided and make them worst as well as the best services encountered. There are various situations where I have taken the service from in different forms and I have gained some experience from the service encounters that I had. It can be said that all the services that I have encountered were not good, but there were others that were exceptionally good (Sergius Koku, 2009). These experiences made me analyse those so that I can implement them in the near future while I avail the services which are similar to the ones that I have received. The worst services provided by an organisation as well as the organisation that are doing a good job are analysed based on my personal experience. Worst experience Hotel Pennsylvania - New York Date of encounter- 11.4.15 The industry is hotel industry The hotel is situated in New York and is known as one of the renowned hotel in the area. The hotel has 1705 guest rooms and 2 restrooms where the breakfast is available. WiFi is available in the lobby and is located at a prime location, form where the Empire State Building, Times Square, and the Madison Square Garden are close. There are superior double bedroom, triple room, as well as suite in the hotel from which the people can choose any type of rooms according to their need. I was at the hotel with my family to for a purpose to spend two days at the hotel, as we were spending the time for a holiday at New York. At the time of the stay at the hotel we were not satisfied to the extent that we should have been during our stay at the hotel, though the servicescape was good (Pauwels Ruyter, 2005). On the first day of our stay, we did not face any problem, though the service was not good. The receptionist was not welcoming to the extent they should have been and it was like that they are doing just a formality in welcoming us. We had taken our pet dog along with us, though they allow pets in the rooms but they were nit approving of the idea of keeping the dog in the room. More over the room service was not on time and they did not maintain the time that we were told. When we went to the lobby in the hotel with our pet dog we were told that the dog was not allowed in the lobby. With this type of behaviour we were not very satisfied since we did not receive this kind of behaviour in the past in any place (Sharma, 2008). We were very hurt due to the fact that the hotel authority was not very appreciative of our stay at the hotel, from the first day. The hotel authority would have made us feel comfortable from the first day of the stay. They could have allowed the pet to roam about with us at all the places that we went in the hotel. More over the hotel could have made an apology statement to us for telling us harshly in front of the others in the area. At the time of leaving they did not show the courtesy to tell us to visit the hotel again and thanked us for the stay (Svari, Sltten, Svensson Edvardsson, 2011). After this service encounter, we have decided that we will not go and take the services from them in the future. The management authority should always look for the happiness of the people who stays in the hotel, and should make the utmost try to make them feel at home. Best services Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston The hospital was very useful to me and provided me with the greatest services that seemed to be like a flawless visit, from the beginning to the end. There take a genuine care of all the patients in the hospital. I was in the radiology department and the instrument were very modern. The doctors and the nurse practitioners were very caring as well as thorough and they communicate with each other and consult with others so that they can take the best care of the patient. The patients are asked to complete a thorough questionnaire about the condition in which the patient is. The questionnaire leaves no areas untouched, so the patient feels satisfied that all the aspects are looked after (Dalakas, 2006). I was very satisfied with the surgery and after that I was inspected at the hospital at regular interval until I was fully recovered (Harris, Baron Parker, 2000). The doctors and the nurses were friendly to make the patient feel at ease and they took utmost care so that the patient can overcome the fear of the treatment. There are other services that they offer. My parents were informed about the success of the operation over the telephone so that they could wait outside to see me after I am taken out of the operation theatre (Woratschek Horbel, 2006). The services that they provide are excellent right from the reception at the time of entering to the time of leaving the hospital. The family of the patient are relieved to leave the patient in the hospital as they know that they will be looked after very well in here. I as well as my family come here all the time and make recommendations to others as well for the treatment. From this experiences that I had in the two services industry I have generated two different set of perspectives based on my perception level. The services are based on the credibility of the service provider in providing the services. The Flower of Service states that there are two types of supplementary services like the facilitating services and the enhancing services. The facilitating services are the information gathering, order taking, billing and the payment. The enhancing services are the consultation with the people, the hospitality that is given, safekeeping of the things in the office, and the exceptions or the extra services that are provided to the people. Thus it is seen in the cases of the two examples that I have given it is seen that I have fulfilled all the facilitating services, but the enhancing services are what that make the difference to the level of perception that the people have (Warnaby, 2009). The hospitality that the people get along with the extra services that they get and expect to get, are different for the different people. Thus in my case the same happened, in the hotel I did not perceive the level of satisfaction that I was expecting and that I got. In case of the hospital the level of service that I got was more than my expectations thus I was overwhelmed. References Baron, S. (2010).Service marketing. London: SAGE. Dalakas, V. (2006). Lord Of The Flies By Golding Essays - English-language Films, Films

Lord Of The Flies By Golding In the Wiliam Golding novel Lord of the Flies children are stranded on an island with the possibility of not getting off. There is no adult supervision, no laws, no form of authority what so ever. When reading this novel, some questions come to mind about society. Questions such as what compels us to behave properly in our society? Is it a fear of the law? How can we behave in such orderly fashion most of the time and yet be capable of terrible destruction? These are some questions this essay will try to answer. A question that may stump some people is what compels us to behave properly in society? The reason may be the want or, for some the need, to fit in and be accepted in society and not to be judged. People know what is accepted and what is not in society. It may be a fear of the law because people know what the consequences for their actions will be, therefore they stay within the confines of the law. People such as Jack, from Lord of the Flies, would be seen as an outcast of society. "I thought I might kill." (p.55) This quote decribes Jacks character and personality. If someone in our society said that people would consider him crazy and not normal. Not all people are civilized and respectable in our society all the time. Sometimes when people act they don't think first which is probably why they are capable of such destruction. They don't think about the repercussions of their actions before they act. Such was the problem in chapter nine "A View to a Death" in Lord of the Flies. The boys think that Simon is the beast so they kill him not knowing who it is. Jack shouts, "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!" (P.167) By Jack saying this you know he is not thinking about the outcome of his actions. Another good quote that shows this is in chapter five when Ralph says, "Things are breaking up. I don't know why. We began well, we were happy." (P.89) This shows that they didn't plan for the worst. If they did plan than maybe things would be better. The situations that people are in would also affect the way people think, or if they think at all. In the situation with Simon's death the boys were too hysterical to think things through rationally. Questions such as why do we behave the way we so in society and what makes us behave orderly most of the time and yet be capable of destruction are difficult to answer. But when it comes down to it, simple things like people not thinking that makes them capable of destruction. And its peoples want for acceptance in society that makes them act the way they do. Examples of these answers are in Lord of the Flies. When it comes down to it humans are animals, and sometimes we act like our ancestors for the simple fact that we are animals.

Black Holes Essays (607 words) - Black Holes, General Relativity

Black Holes Essays (607 words) - Black Holes, General Relativity Black Holes Black Holes Black holes are one of the more bizarre and intriguing predictions of Einstein's theory of gravity. Surprisingly, there is now a great deal of observational evidence that black holes do exist, both in binary star systems and at the center of most galaxies, including our own. Although we are gaining more knowledge of black holes, they still remain one of the strangest things anyone has ever heard of, and we may never know what exactly one of these things are and can do. It is impossible to manufacture black holes in a laboratory. The density of matter required is too great. In order to make a black hole the size of a baseball, you would have to pack all the matter in and on the Earth into a volume the size of a fist. Nature can make black holes, however. Matter naturally collapses unless there is some other force to hold it up. The objects in a room are kept from collapsing by electromagnetic forces. The gas in an active star is held up by thermal pressure. However, once a star uses up its thermonuclear fuel, it starts to collapse, and if there is enough mass to overcome other, microscopic forces, it collapses into a black hole. According to Einstein's theory, if we could pack enough matter into a small enough volume, the thing created inside will get so deep that the matter inside can never escape. A circle of no return forms. Any matter that passes the point of no return can no longer escape to the outside world. It necessarily keeps collapsing, moving towards the center. It gets deeper and deeper until finally a hole is literally torn in the fabric of spacetime: the density of matter at the center becomes essentially infinite. Thus, what is meant by a hole in the fabric of spacetime is: a tiny region of space where the known laws of physics break down. A black hole is a region of space so tightly packed with matter, that nothing, not even light can escape. Hidden at its center is a tear in the fabric of spacetime. Stephen Hawking showed in the mid-seventies that black holes aren't actually black. They glow in the dark. They emit radiation via microscopic processes that occur just outside the horizon. This means black holes ultimately evaporate. In reality, though, a solar mass black hole will take many times the lifetime of the Universe to evaporate. In some sense, a black hole marks a boundary to spacetime: a horizon beyond which no one can see without travelling through it. This radius of no return is called the event horizon of the black hole. All the bumps and wriggles of the matter from which they were formed are smoothed out as the matter contracts, so that the final shape of the horizon is always perfectly smooth and round. This is where everything gets really weird. To a distant observer, events near the horizon appear to slow down. If you drop a clock into a black hole it appears to tick more and more slowly as it approaches the event horizon. Time actually appears to stop right at the horizon. The clock's motion towards the black hole also slows down and to a distant observer it takes literally forever to fall through. If you fell in the event horizon with the clock, you would be sucked into the singularity in no time. As you fall, time and space become jumbled, and you cant control your falling to the center as much as you cant help yourself falling into the future. Black holes are definitely one of the most bizarre things anyone has ever heard of. We will never totally understand everything about them. They make up only a small part of our mysterious universe, though.

Nutrition sciences Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 8000 words

Nutrition sciences - Essay Example ly consumption of food and drink by a sample of students and to analyse such dietary intakes into useful information, such as nutrients consumed by each student in the given time frame. Moreover the report is also aimed at critically evaluating the findings obtained through analysis and their comparison with Dietary Reference Values (DRV). Healthy diet, which has balanced nutrients, among youngsters is a major factor in determining their health conditions in the years to come. It is due to this reason that consuming a certain level of nutrients in each diet an individual takes is essential for a healthy life. Student life is the phase in which every individual experiences changes and variations in life style and consumption patterns on a frequent basis.
